Presentation
Scoutkåren MuHö r.f. is a Swedish speaking scout troop in Espoo, a suburb to Helsinki, the capital of Finland. We are currently about 130 members (2007), including both boys and girls. We meet in Grottan ("The Cave")
There are packs of brownies (7-10 years old), wolfs (10-11 years old) and patrols of scouts and guides (11-15 years old). The leaders, or rovers as they're also called are aged 16 to 30.
Our emphasis is on hiking and other outdoor activities. Weekends are usually spent hiking in forests in and around Espoo. Rovers tend to go further away to places such as Lapland and National Parks. The peak event of the year is the Scout Camp that usually takes place in the beginning of August. Traditional events during the camp include a Treasure Hunt and an Iron Man Competition.
We also participate in many other events, throughout the year, such as orienteering, various scouting skill competitions, volleyball and floorball tournaments. We play floorball weekly, both to stay fit and to prepare for upcoming tournaments.
A MuHö scout is easily recognizable. We wear scarves that are bright yellow and also usually a dark green shirt with our logo, a cow, on the back.
We believe in sustainable development and take steps to minimize the environmental impact of our activities, especially when hiking. We have written an environmental policy that is revised regularly.
MuHö-info, our quarterly journal goes out to all members.
